Writing gives physical form to our thoughts.
Vocabulary Acquisition Having a good vocabulary is more than spelling correctly. Being able to understand a wide range of words means you can read better, write better and speak better. Vocab. Dev. is a weekly assignment. Click on the title to find directions. Grammar and Language Mechanics Writing well is also more than spelling correctly. It has to make sense and usually follows rules. Grammar is the blueprint, recipe or process that makes our writing easy for others to understand what we are saying. Nothing takes the place of your own careful editing and revising, but if you need help Grammarly is a good start. Schoolhouse Rock is an oldie but goodie to remind us that grammar can be fun. https://movies.disney.com/schoolhouse-rock |
Every year students of all grades take the District Writing Assessment (DWA). We will have a practice writing assignment in November. We will use the MyAccess website to do some writing and scoring. Scores of 4, 5, or 6 are passing scores Anything less does not pass the DWA. https://www.bing.com/images

Other Writing Assignments A lot of our writing is our thoughts about what we have read. You are expected to write complete sentences, short paragraphs, and essays (usually 5 paragraphs and at least 500 words long.) You will find directions here for essays related to units of study or novels read in class. |
